See for those that don't know. Long before the days of "drawing for di ting" - the best way to settle beef, way back, was to dance it out, both camps knew what time it was when the stand-off occurred!
Take this scene for example from Beat Street - one of my favourite flicks of all time. Best hip-hop movie I'd say. But this scene does it for me:
The High
The "fake walk-away, and then walk back" manoeuvre. The amount of "Sucka man!" style verbal talk that was sure to have happened pre-dance-off.
And then as soon as the BoomBox hits the ground. Oh Lord, you know it's onnn!!!
And then to round it up...you know how much of a danger to society dancing was in the 80's when the po-po's are involved. And not calmly either. They got the sticks out, ready to bump a couple 'eds! Not to mention the man-handling the unlucky ones receive.
This has to be my favourite scene from the film, but there are so many others. It defined a generation. A hip-hop generation. Do watch!
